Remembering Rick...

Rick L. Smith
1954 - 2011

On September 16, 2011, Rick Smith left the world, the work, and the people he loved. He fought a courageous, almost envious battle with pancreatic cancer. We say envious because he fought hard, had a positive attitude, and lived life to the fullest through his last days. In the months prior to his departure, he encouraged us to get our priorities straight. It was the peace he had that was speaking to us as if we were the ones he felt sorry for--certainly not for himself.

Rick Smith had a passion for his work. He loved the relationships developed while trying to help clients become more successful and more profitable. He became more than the consultant--he was their advisor, their mentor and a great friend. He had an abundance of energy. It was nothing to jump on a plane at a moment's notice whenever he was needed because he had a commitment to the business world. His mission was to help build World Class/Lean companies and eternal friendships.

Rick had a selfless desire to serve. He served in the community and through his church; always finding opportunities to help wherever he was needed.

He will be always be missed and never forgotten.

Continuing the momentum.

Losing a great leader and friend has had a great impact on my reflections of 2011 and my dedication to continuing the momentum that Rick Smith devoted his life. I am committed to keeping the tradition of Technical Change Associates' mission of building truly great companies. We have over 27 years' experience in Lean implementations. Our wholistic approach to continuous improvement has made TCA the leader in Lean business consulting.

I strongly believe that the combination of continuous education and hands-on experience gives us the edge that clients need for successful programs. “So many professionals will read a book and call themselves ‘consultants, ‘ but we believe our years of experience in leading the charge gives our customers an advantage." All the associates involved with TCA have at least 20 years’ of implementation experience at gemba (the actual place where value happens). They are not just merely academic Lean instructors.”
